Kwale Municipality

Kwale Municipality hosts Kwale town, the headquarters of the County. The town is located at around 4°10′28″S 39°27′37″E; 30 kilometres southwest of Mombasa and 15 kilometres inland.

As per the population census of 2019, the municipality was estimated to be inhabited by 29,980 persons, of whom 14,803 and 15,177 were males and females respectively. The population density excluding the area covered by the Shimba Hills National Game Reserve is 318 per square kilometre.

The municipality is zoned into 5 main settlement schemes, namely; Jeza ‘A’, Jeza ‘B’, Kinarini, township, and Tsimba/Golini.

As a Municipality, Kwale has the mandate of performing the following functions within its area of jurisdiction

    Promotion, regulation and provision of refuse collection and solid waste management services

    Construction and maintenance of urban roads and associated infrastructure

    Walkways and non-motorized transport infrastructure
